Elmo Williams wants you to audition for his play

 "The Corner Pocket

A funny and insightful play, recently created by Academy Award winning Hollywood movie producer, director, editor and writer Elmo Williams, a celebrated resident of Brookings, Oregon. It is a warm hearted story about the humorous side of aging and the baffling differences between the sexes. The story contains lots of love and lots of humor, plus a little soft shoe, some bits of great music and even a rousing rendition from a marching kazoo band. It will be a hoot!

The story itself could take place in "any small city, USA".  The first big reason I love Elmo's play is because although many references are made to characters and places in and around Brookings-Harbor, the names can easily be changed to fit any other town for future productions by other theater companies down the road apiece. The second big reason it attracted me is because the play is just so absolutely sweet. I'm expecting the script to be published very soon after the run of this debut production and when it is adopted for use by other theater companies, the custom is to print the names of the play's original participants; a major feather in anyone's theatrical cap.

We will be looking for quite a few folks of retired or near-retirement age, a number of middle-aged people and some young adults. Sorry, there are no kids in the play. Since none of the parts are excessively large, this will serve as an excellent chance for some inexperienced actors to get their stage start and my view is that they'll be immediately bitten by the acting bug, just as I was many years back.

I will be directing "The Corner Pocket" and Elmo will be there as often as possible to witness the progress and to add his creativity to the mix. Auditions will be held Tuesday, August 10th and Wednesday, August 11th at 6:30pm at the Chetco Playhouse in Brookings.

Rehearsals will take place from August 16th through September 30th and we will rehearse from 6:30pm till 9:00pm, Monday through Thursday. Initially, rehearsals will be divided into separate sections and roles, so all those involved need not be present every day. As rehearsals progress, we will begin to combine the sections of the play, requiring the entire cast to be present. The play is scheduled to run the first three weekends this coming October at the Chetco Playhouse.

Start modifying your plans now, so you can have the opportunity to come on down and take part in this wonderful first-time event. Elmo and I will be happy to see you.

Thanks      -Tommy Jones  The Chetco Playhouse is located at 1240 Chetco Ave.
